ABOUT
Renata Chede (São Paulo, 1981) is a Brazilian-Lebanese-Dutch visual artist based in Amsterdam. Photography is at the centre of her practice—not primarily as a tool for documentation, but as a way of cultivating relationships with memory, family, place, and the living world. Working across artist books, drawing, painting, embroidery, and found materials, she creates bodies of work where attention, materiality, and lived experience become forms of encounter.
Originally trained as a graphic designer, Chede worked for fourteen years in editorial and commercial photography before expanding her practice into contemporary art. Her postgraduate specialisation in semiotics and communication continues to inform her approach to image-making as a system of meaning.
Her recent project, Inburgering, was nominated for the Star Photobook Dummy Award 2026, selected for PhMuseum Days 2026, and invited for the Encontros da Imagem Portfolio Reviews 2026. She is currently developing a new body of work through the VI International Residency RAMA-ACHO, exploring childhood memory through the archive of the house where she grew up in São Paulo.
